Celebrating Diversity:
Engaging parents in their children's Education
(Online training supported with resources and key staff CPD)
Crucial to Educational Achievement is the Engagement of Parents:
Right from Early Years and Foundation Stage, begin to engage parents in school life by requesting just one or two words per half term in their first language. A simple illustrated letter is followed by a quick display of responses and otherwise reticent children take pride in expertly pronouncing their language for everyone to learn.
Further on through the school, children can discuss their work at home and bring in responses written in their first language or scribed by their parents.

The Language Project
(Whole or key staff CPD plus resources)
Children celebrating the languages and cultures in their Global Community School, every day.
For six weeks, your first-language speaking children teach two children from each class at a weekly club. They return and teach their class for approximately 5 minutes. Through practical application, children are empowered by leading, sharing languages, cultures and finding common ground.
With a class trophy at stake, and the chance to choose the next language, the excitement grows for the final meeting, when the class representatives play an inter-class bingo competition. Facilitated and organised centrally by one member of your team, driven by the children, this scheme has a whole school impact with minimal demands on class teachers. Keep parents informed to complete the whole school impact.
Engaging Parents
Multilingual Signs
(Key Staff CPD and Direct Intervention)
Developed in association with the families of your school's global community to welcome and support each other.
Choose the areas of your school to be signposted and explain to the children how their families can help. Then send an illustrated letter to all your families requesting translations into their first languages. The signs are edited and produced in the colours of your school and displayed for families to check, adjust and agree before the signs are professionally printed, mounted and displayed around the school. Celebrate their arrival at your next school event!
